A gorgeous autumn day at Belton House

I love being a member of the National Trust and love a good family day out at a National Trust property. We’ve visited quite a few now but my favourite has to be Belton House. I remember visiting as a kid so there are lots of great memories associated with it, but it is even better now if anything. It’s just a stunning place to go, whatever the time of year, and there’s always so much for the kids too.

I’ve been itching to go again so this half term my Mum and I took the kids for the day and had an amazing time. As we got close to Grantham up the A1 on the way there a heavy fog descended and it was decidedly grey and chilly when we arrived so we popped to the fantastic stay and play cafe for some tea and cake first. photogrid_1477408406605

We then decided to have a go at the Halloween trail and Monkey loved hunting for monsters around the grounds and doing some fun monster skin rubbings with Nanny!photogrid_1477408569160

With the trail completed we headed over for a play on the amazing and enormous adventure play area.photogrid_1477408689848

While we had a stop for lunch and a hot chocolate to warm us up the fog finally started to clear and the sun came out in time for yet more adventure play fun.photogrid_1477408950918

It is probably the biggest adventure play I’ve ever seen with so much for all ages. The kids adored getting filthy playing with the stoney play area, pulling stones up and pouring them back down the tubes. The water play area was of course a huge hit too.photogrid_1477409166627

Because I wanted to see a bit more of the grounds now the sun had come out we headed off for an explore. It’s such a beautiful place and the kids had a great time in the maze too.photogrid_1477409306086

We had great fun chasing bubbles around amongst the leaves and then Monkey and Nanny had a leaf fight. Fab autumn fun and I just adore all the autumnal colours.photogrid_1477409662889

By then we were all getting pretty tired so we headed home. But there’s so much to see there, we didn’t even go in the house itself or to the lake or the discovery centre!

Have you ever visited Belton House? Do you have a favourite National Trust place or family day out? I’d love to hear about it!

  1. Oh this looks brilliant fun! You were lucky with the weather too, so lovely that it brightened up for you in the end. We have sadly been unable to have a National Trust day out during half term due to illness but they are always our favourite days out.

  2. We’re National Trust members and like you say they’re great value in getting us out and about seeing some wonderful properties. We’ve never been to Belton but the house and grounds look stunning. Next time we’re over that way we’all certainly drop by.

  3. This looks amazing. We have National Trust membership so will try this out if ever we are near. We loved Corfe Castle and we go to Anglesey Abbey and Wimpole Hall quite regularly.

    Coming over from #CountryKids x

  4. I’ve not heard of Belton House before but I am already in love with it! It looks amazing there with all the autumn colours. How wonderful that the mist lifted for you to give a beautiful autumn day; though a chilly arrival is always a good excuse for coffee and cake first! That play area really does look impressive and not just the usual things either. I can see from the photos how involved the children were. The leaf throwing with Nanny looks great too, these are days you remember fondly as winter sets in.

Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids

  5. My favourite National Trust places are all down here in Kent, but I absolutely love the look of this one! I might have to make an effort to stop here next time we go up north. That play area looks amazing and I love the sound of a stay and play cafe too. Your photos are stunning, with all of the autumn colour, and the mist just makes it look even more perfect! #CountryKids

  6. This looks like a great day and has given me ideas for the next school holiday. I have never considered a National Trust membership and I am not sure why. Great post #twinklytuesday

  7. I quite fancy that play area!! It’s looks gorgeous and glad the weather picked up for you! National trust is just fab – so glad we are members. Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst xx

  8. It looks like a brilliant place to visit at any time of year! So much to see and do and I love that Nanny got so involved too, she looks delighted at the leaf fight! My two would be just the same in the stones and water, get messy and play. Thanks so much for linking up to #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x

  9. I’ve been to Belton House before and was really impressed! We stopped off on the way to Norfolk, and it was raining but we loved the indoor play area and cafe. I wish we had had more time to explore the whole estate though – the playground looks fantastic. #countrykids

  10. What beautiful pictures! It looks like such a fun and picturesque place. I’ve never been to Belton House but we’ll have a pay a visit when we renew our NT passes.
