Our little reader – 28 mths

Storytime at 3 mths old

Storytime at 3 mths old

We have read books to Monkey since he was tiny. Both hubs and I love reading books to him and it has been a major part of the bedtime routine since he was just a few months old. As a result, Monkeyย loves books. He is constantly bombarding us with books saying “go read, go read, go read” until we comply with his demands!

Now that his speech is rapidly developing he likes saying words and pointing out the names of things in books.ย He’s also ‘reading’ or rather he has memorised some of his favourite books and joins in with reading them. One of his favourite books (at the moment) is one that Daddy doesn’t even like, “The Tiger who Came to Tea”. Monkey loves it. He goes through fits and starts with lots of his books, insisting on the same one for days at a time, and then moving onto another.

At the moment we are very much in a “The Tiger who Came to Tea” phase and Daddy has been impressed with how much of it Monkey has memorised and can read along with him. His pronunciation of some words is still really unclear but some of them are spot on. I am trying to get more videos of him talking, purely so we can look back at this cutie phase when he is older, so here is a little video of Monkey and Daddy reading “The Tiger who Came to Tea.”

N.B We haven’t been sponsored or asked to write this post, it just happens to be one of Monkey’s favourite books!

  1. Love it when little ones start joining in with reading bedtime stories – my eldest does the same now. That video of Monkey reading is great – lovely to capture that moment. We love the Tiger Who Came To Tea too ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. ahhh bless him!! We have the tiger who came to tea and i know its a classic and everything, but, I don’t really get it?! Is there supposed to be a moral? some kind of secret meaning? Does the tiger actually represent something/someone else? Or is it actually just about a tiger that rocks up at someones house and eats all their foodโ€ฆ..and drinks all the water out of the taps!?!?

Its amazing that he loves books so much though!
Hope you are feeling well lovely, getting so excited to ‘meet’ new baby ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

    • haha I know what you mean… I *think* I read somewhere that there is some symbolism with Jews in Nazi Germany pre 2nd world war and the constant fear of that time of someone knocking on your door… I’m not 100% sure on that but I think that’s what it’s about! It is a slightly odd book though, but Monkey loves it! We do kinda love how much he loves books and reading, though it can all feel a bit repetitive sometimes! Thanks honey, all is well, just in full on preparation mode now! xx

  3. Beanie loves The Tiger Who Came to Tea! She brought it home from pre-school the other day, and I had to read it three or four times to her that evening ๐Ÿ™‚ Did you add a pan on your header? Looks fab! x

  4. Aww that’s so cute! I always meant to video Kitty ‘reading’ her favourite Rhinos Don’t Eat Pancakes but never got round to it before her language had taken off and it just wasn’t the same!

    • Thanks lovely, it’s already changed a lot even since we shot the video and he is reading even more of it now! So glad we captured it as they change so quickly! xx

  5. Ahhh bless he is ever so adorable. I love the video. I love reading to my kids. We actually need to buy some more books as I am ever so sick of reading the same but hte kids are happy to keep on reading them over and over. I think Buba can recite one of them. lol So lovely to see and what a grown up boy he is becoming. Thanks for linking up to Share With Me #sharewithme

    • Thanks lovely, it is so great isn’t it? And yep, kids are dead happy with the same books over and over again lol! xx

  6. This is so cute! I could only see 40seconds of the video before my phone went dodgy but it’s a lovely video ๐Ÿ™‚
Osian’s a big book fan too, he loves stories! He now crawls over with a book he wants me to read while he sits on my knee. The crawl he ends up doing while holding the book is so funny and cute. He also sits on his own flicking through the pictures while babbling away, so he obviously completely understands what you do with books! I think it’s fair to say that books are one of Osian’s favourite things, which I’m very glad about ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

    • haha no worries, it is quite a loong video! Bless Osian that’s so sweet, so lovely for them to love books from such a young age isn’t it? x

  7. Fantastic! It’s so rewarding when you can read with them like this. At this age I was constantly amazed by my kids’ capacity to commit books to memory. Bedtime – which means story-time in our house – has always been one of the best parts of the day for us.

    • It’s amazing how much they can remember isn’t it? It just astounds me! It is such a lovely time and in our house Daddy loves that it is his special time of day (and I enjoy a rest! :)) xx

  8. This is a great post, I have one on my blog about all the types of books we’ve been through, our 14 year old kept up the reading & is now on Eminem’s Biog, eek.

  9. Oh bless him- what a good boy! I adore the fact that both my girls seem to love reading. It was such an important part of my childhood growing up and I love they share my love of books- we try and nurture it as much as possible. x

  10. Ah, reading is so great. My son can recite most books pretty well (his faves are What the ladybird hear and Gruafflo at the moment) and he likes to finish the end of sentences from us.
I love how he snuggles in for stories

  11. Oh bless him, he’s adorable! I think books and reading are so, so important to a child’s development, and can open a whole world up to them. I’m so pleased (and relieved!) my two love books and being read to. I really hope they don’t find learning to read too much of a struggle. #ordinarymoments

  12. He really is doing so well, love the video. It’s nice to see how much he has some on. I must add this book to Ethan’s Christmas list.
